About us

The Matawinie MRC has the delegation of management of regional parks located on public land in its territory. In 2008, it created the Société de développement des parcs régionaux de la Matawinie (SDPRM) to assume the management of the parks’ operations, a non-profit organization made up of municipal elected officials and partners representing the forestry, tourism and commercial sectors.

Our mission

The mission of the SDPRM is to participate closely in the planning and development of the parks, with a view to promoting sustainable regional development by enhancing the recreational and tourism potential of the regional parks and the National Trail.

Historical

The Matawinie MRC territory can count on a unique concentration of regional parks in Quebec. There are six (6) regional parks on the territory, four (4) of which are on public territory. This wealth and diversity of natural attractions represents an undeniable potential to develop the identity and tourism positioning of the Matawinie. The Council of Mayors confirmed this commitment towards the development of regional parks by creating, in 2008, the Société de développement des parcs régionaux de la Matawinie (SDPRM).
The Corporation’s operations began in 2009. This same year saw the creation of the management tools necessary for the structured and sustained development of the parks, as well as the completion of strategic planning for recreation and tourism and various structuring projects. The creation of a network of regional parks represents the heart of this development vision based on recreation and tourism. As an integrating element of this park network, we also find the National Trail, which plays a determining role by proposing a long hiking trail linking the different geographic sectors and an important number of tourist facilities of the vast Matawinie territory.
