As its name might suggest, Lac Taureau is one of the largest lakes near Montreal. It is an immense reservoir spreading over 270 kilometers of shoreline and a 95 km2 surface area. The history behind this massive lake is also fascinating! Did you know that, when the dam was being builg around 100 years ago, the village nearby got swallowed entirely by the water of this gigantic lake?
During the summer, its 45 islands and numerous fine sandy beaches make it an exceptional vacation spot, especially for nautical activities and camping. During the winter, the lake becomes a snowy wonderland made for snowmobile and dogsled lovers! The partially emptied reservoir adorns its winter coat to completely transforms the landscape: white snow and shiny ice make for a breathtaking panorama. The nearby Auberge du Lac Taureau joins the many snowshoe, cross-country ski and dogsled trails, making it easy to truly enjoy a winter day out in nature.
